Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Department of Electrical Engineering, Nagpur, invites applications from motivated and eligible candidates for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF). The selected candidate will work on the MeitY-MHI EVSS-II research project titled “Retrofitting of Existing IC Engine Based Pick-Up Truck to Battery Electric Vehicle” in collaboration with TSUYO Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd., Delhi.

  • Location: Department of Electrical Engineering, VNIT, Nagpur, Maharashtra
  • Emoluments: Rs. 37,000/- per month + HRA
  • Duration: Purely temporary; initially for one year, extendable up to two years based on performance (or project completion date).
  • PhD Opportunity: The selected candidate will have the opportunity to register for a regular PhD program at VNIT Nagpur subject to meeting eligibility criteria.

Eligibility / Qualification

  • Essential Qualification: Master’s or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering or other allied disciplines with 6.5 CGPA and above at both UG and PG levels.
  • National Level Exam: Must be GATE Qualified.
  • Thesis Status: Candidates who have submitted their Master’s Thesis are also eligible to apply.
  • Desired Qualification: Good academic record and skill set relevant to the project.

Job Description & Project Scope

The scope of work for the JRF position includes:

  • Developing retrofitting technology involving advanced engineering and electronics for converting IC Engine vehicles to Electric Vehicles.
  • Exploring multiple charging technologies including fast, slow, and battery swap systems.
  • Testing and validating the retrofitted EV to ensure it meets required performance, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Developing user guides, maintenance manuals, and training materials related to retrofitting existing vehicles.
