Research Area

Project Title: “Understanding and Predicting Marine Atmospheric optical turbulence characteristics in and above boundary layer over North Indian Ocean”

Location

Centre for Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS), School of Physics, University of Hyderabad, Gachibowli, Hyderabad – 500 046, Telangana, India.

Eligibility / Qualification

  • Essential Qualification: M.Sc. (Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences / Meteorology / Physical Oceanography) or M.Tech. (Atmospheric / Ocean Sciences).
  • Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
    • Thorough understanding of marine atmospheric boundary layer dynamics, atmospheric turbulence processes, and meteorological and oceanic interactions over the North Indian Ocean.
    • Experience in atmospheric measurements, numerical modelling, and data analysis using satellite or in-situ observations.
    • Experience in handling and processing satellite and in-situ meteorological or oceanographic data.
    • Proficiency in computer programming using Python, MATLAB, Fortran, or C, along with shell scripting.
    • Working knowledge of Linux/UNIX platforms.
    • Skill in data visualization and analysis using tools such as GrADS, NCL, Ferret, CDO, or similar scientific software.
  • Age Limit: 32 years.
  • Other Requirements: Candidates must meet the requirements as mentioned in DST O.M.No. DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022, dated 26th June 2023.

Job Description

The appointment is purely temporary for a research project focused on understanding and predicting optical turbulence characteristics in the marine atmospheric boundary layer. The initial engagement will be for six months, extendable every six months based on progress and performance review, up to the project duration of two (02) years.

Fellowship / Stipend: ₹37,000/- per month + 30% HRA.
