Research Position in IIT Kanpur

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) invites applications from dynamic and motivated candidates for the position of Project Engineer under Office of the Dean of Academic Affairs (Advt. No. P.Rect./R&D/2026/211). The position is aimed at the field installation of a wind-solar hybrid system and setting up an Energy Technology Laboratory at Sindhu Central University (currently mentored by IIT Kanpur).

  • Salary / Remuneration: Rs. 31,600 – 2,600 – 78,400 per month (as per IIT Kanpur norms, based on qualification and experience)
  • Duration: Contractual (Initially for 1 year, extendable based on performance and project requirements; position currently till March 31, 2029)

Eligibility / Qualification

Candidates must fulfill one of the following qualifications:

  • M.Tech / M.E. in Energy Technology, Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, or related disciplines.
  • OR B.Tech / B.E. in the above disciplines with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in energy systems, lab setup, or project execution.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with renewable energy technologies and systems.
  • Familiarity with working in remote or high-altitude environments.
  • Hands-on skills in instrumentation, data logging, and system integration.
  • Data analysis and interpretation abilities.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities with a proactive, collaborative approach.

Job Description

The primary job responsibilities include:

  • Installation and commissioning of a Wind-Solar hybrid field lab in the 100 kW range.
  • Overseeing the setup, integration, and commissioning of laboratory equipment related to sustainable and renewable energy systems.
  • Coordinating with vendors, researchers, and contractors for equipment procurement, installation, and operation.
  • Providing technical support for energy systems involving solar, wind, and other renewable sources adapted for high-altitude environments.
  • Assisting in research, testing, and data analysis for pilot projects and field deployments.
  • Ensuring adherence to safety, environmental, and project compliance standards.
