The Secretariat for the Smart Laboratory on Clean Rivers (SLCR) at the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi, has announced vacancies for various project-based positions. Established under the institutional framework between the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and IIT (BHU) under the Namami Gange Mission-II, the SLCR aims to bring global and local knowledge together for the sustainable rejuvenation of small rivers.

Applications are invited from qualified and dynamic candidates for these contractual positions. The initial appointment will be valid until August 2027 and will be co-terminus with the project duration.

Research Area

The project focuses on the holistic and sustainable rejuvenation of small rivers, river ecosystems, water quality assessment, hydrological/hydrogeological modelling, and the design and implementation of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for wastewater treatment.

Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India (IIT BHU Campus).

Eligibility & Qualifications

1. Project Attendant (2 Posts)

  • Essential Qualification:
    • Post 1: Graduate Degree in Sciences with experience in water quality sampling and testing, including the application of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) systems.
    • Post 2: Graduate Degree in Fine Arts/Design/Architecture with proficiency in office software (Microsoft Word, Excel) and design software (CAD, Photoshop, InDesign, CorelDraw, Illustrator, etc.).
  • Desirable Experience: Strong organizational, multitasking, and communication skills; experience in handling office equipment and managing supplies.

2. Project Assistant (2 Posts)

  • Essential Qualification: Graduation in Science or Engineering fields OR a 3-year Diploma in Engineering & Technology with knowledge of water quality sampling and testing, including the application of NbS systems.
  • Desirable Experience: Basic proficiency in office/design software (MS Word, Excel, CAD, Photoshop, etc.) OR experience with specialized technical/scientific software (SWAT, QGIS, ArcGIS, Remote Sensing).

3. Junior Research Fellow (JRF) (1 Post)

  • Essential Qualification: Master’s Degree in Science and Engineering in the field of Hydraulics, River Engineering, Water Resources, or Geoinformatics. Candidates must have qualified GATE, NET, or an equivalent national-level examination.
  • Desirable Experience: Understanding of river ecosystems, water quality assessment, fieldwork, data analysis tools, Python, and GIS.

4. Research Associate-I (2 Posts)

  • Essential Qualification: Ph.D. or equivalent degree, OR 3 years of research and teaching experience after M.Sc./M.Tech. with at least 1 publication in an SCI Journal.
  • Specialization: Design and implementation of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for treating wastewater, or Hydrological/Hydrogeological Modelling.
  • Desirable Experience: Expertise in GIS, remote sensing, river ecosystems, advanced research methodologies, and scientific software.

5. Senior Project Scientist (Professional Grade-I) (1 Post)

  • Essential Qualification: Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Water Resources, or any relevant discipline with 6 to 8 years of research or teaching experience.

Note: Age relaxation of 5 years is applicable for Female, SC, ST, and PH candidates, and 3 years for OBC-NCL candidates.

Job Description & Responsibilities

The selected team will be responsible for facilitating and coordinating project execution and monitoring. Key tasks include:

  • Managing Calls for Proposals (CFP) and developing platforms for proposal submissions.
  • Supporting the Apex Committee in project evaluation, screening, and progress reviews.
  • Documenting project activities, contracts, and compliance.
  • Building networks with partners, industry collaborators, and subject matter experts.
  • Compiling progress reports, Utilization Certificates (UC), and managing project funds.
  • Preparing consolidated quarterly reports and executing project rollout plans.
