Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), Mohali invites applications from prospective candidates for admission to its Ph.D. Program for the January 2027 session. Selected students will be enrolled in the Ph.D. program of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Mohali, and the Ph.D. degree will be awarded by IISER Mohali. Both self-funded and limited institute-supported positions are available in physical, chemical, biological, pharmaceutical, agri-sciences, and related interdisciplinary fields.

Research positions are available across multiple streams and research units:

  • Physical Sciences: Quantum Materials and Devices Unit (QMaD)
  • Chemical Sciences: Energy and Environment Unit (EEU)
  • Biological Sciences: Cellular and Bio-molecular Sciences Unit (CBU)
  • Other Disciplines: Pharmaceutical Sciences, Agri Sciences, DRG, and related fields.

Eligibility / Qualification

  • Educational Background: M.Sc., M.Pharm., or M.Tech. in Basic or Applied Sciences, Engineering, or related areas. Students who have appeared for final year/semester examinations are eligible, provided the degree is granted by the time of joining.
  • National Examination: Must have qualified at least one national examination: GATE, CSIR/UGC-NET (JRF, PhD admission only, LS), JEST, JGEEBILS (TIFR/NCBS), ICMR-JRF, DBT-JRF, GPAT, or Project-Funded (as per INST rules).
  • DST INSPIRE: DST INSPIRE candidates may apply; selection will be on an ad-hoc basis subject to successful fellowship activation.
  • Age Limit: As per CSIR-UGC and DST guidelines.

Job Description

Selected candidates will pursue doctoral research under the joint academic framework of INST and IISER Mohali. The scholar will engage in cutting-edge research in nanoscience and technology across designated research units.
