Summary: Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), Mohali, an autonomous institute supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has announced a Special Drive Walk-In-Interview for OBC-NCL, SC, and ST candidates for admission into its Ph.D. Program for the January 2027 session. Selected candidates will be enrolled in the Ph.D. program of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Mohali, and the degree will be awarded by IISER Mohali.

Eligibility & Qualification

  • Educational Qualification: M.Sc., M.Pharm., or M.Tech. in Basic or Applied Sciences, Engineering, or related areas. Students who have appeared for final year/semester examinations are also eligible, provided the degree is granted by the time of joining.
  • Marks Criteria: Minimum of 55% marks (or CPI of 5.5) at Master’s level or M.Tech. level.
  • National Level Examination: Qualified at least one national exam among GATE, CSIR/UGC-NET (JRF, PhD admission only, LS), JEST, JGEEBILS (TIFR/NCBS), ICMR-JRF, DBT-JRF, GPAT, Project-Funded (as per INST rules), or DST-INSPIRE (adhoc basis subject to activation).
  • Unit Specific Score/Rank Cutoffs:
    • Chemical Biology Unit (CBU): GATE score 300 or above; GPAT rank 4000 or below.
    • Energy and Environment Unit (EEU): GATE score 350 or above; GPAT rank 4500 or below.
    • Quantum Materials and Devices Unit (QMaD): GATE score 250 or above; GPAT rank 2500 or below; JEST score 20 or above.
  • Category: Reserved exclusively for OBC-NCL, SC, and ST candidates.
  • Age Limit: As per CSIR-UGC and DST guidelines.

Job Description & Key Information

  • The selected students will pursue research under faculty members across various research units (QMaD, EEU, CBU, and DRG) in areas such as energy storage, sensors, computational nanoscience, drug delivery, nano-therapeutics, quantum materials, and catalysts.
  • Application Fee:
    • Rs. 590/- for OBC-NCL candidates.
    • Rs. 295/- for SC/ST candidates.
    • Fee must be remitted online on the date of the interview.
  • No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.

How to Apply

  1. Interested and eligible candidates are encouraged to submit an online synopsis to express their interest prior to attending the interview.
  2. Report directly for the Walk-in-Interview at the INST Mohali campus on the specified date by 09:00 AM.
  3. Bring all original documents supporting Date of Birth, educational qualifications, fellowship certificates (UGC/CSIR-JRF, DBT-JRF, ICMR-JRF, etc.), reservation category certificates (OBC-NCL/SC/ST), research experience, and publications for verification.
  4. Bring two passport-size photographs and one set of self-attested photocopies of all supportive documents.
  5. Remit the application fee online on the interview date.
