Junior Research Fellow (JRF) – IIT Ropar (ANRF Funded Project)

Summary: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar has invited applications from highly motivated and eligible candidates for a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position under an ANRF funded ARG project titled “Investigations into moisture response and aerodynamics of small insects”.
Designation
Junior Research Fellow (JRF)
Research Area
Fluid mechanics, insect flight aerodynamics, surface characterization, drop-surface interactions, and related interdisciplinary experimental and numerical investigations.
Location
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar
Eligibility / Qualification
The applicant must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering / Aerospace Engineering / Chemical Engineering from a recognized institute with an exceptionally good academic record (minimum CGPA of 6.5 on a 10.0 point scale or 65% marks) plus a good GATE/NET score.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering / Aerospace Engineering / Chemical Engineering from a recognized institute with an exceptionally good academic record (minimum CGPA of 6.5 on a 10.0 point scale or 65% marks) plus a good GATE/NET score.
Desirable Qualities: Good understanding of fluid mechanics. Prior experience in conducting experiments and a background in topics such as surface wettability, capillary phenomena, and micro/nano fabrication will be preferable.
Job Description
The selected candidate will work on an interdisciplinary research project aiming to conduct a systematic study into the response of flying insects to atmospheric moisture. Responsibilities involve experimental investigations such as surface characterization, high-speed and microscopic imaging for studying the interaction between drops and surfaces, observations of insect flight aerodynamics, data analysis, and complementary numerical investigations using state-of-the-art lab facilities. The candidate may also have the opportunity to apply for the Ph.D. Program as per existing institute rules.
