Job Summary

The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) invites applications for a temporary position of Senior Research Fellow (SRF) under the ANRF sponsored project titled “Chitrabhasha: Developing India’s Largest Dataset and Foundation Models for Multimodal AI.” This is a 12-month appointment with potential extension based on performance and fund availability.

Eligibility / Qualifications

Essential Qualification/Experience

  • M.Tech. / M.S. / M.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering or equivalent degree in a closely related discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or 7.0 CGPA (on a 10-point scale).
  • National Eligibility Tests – CSIR-UGC NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE.
  • Minimum two years of research experience after obtaining the qualifying degree, as per institute norms.
  • Academic qualification requires a minimum of 60% or equivalent grade from graduation onwards, and 55% or equivalent grade in class 10th and 12th.

Desirable Qualification/Experience

  • Exposure to methodologies for dataset validation, error analysis, and annotation quality assessment.
  • Ability to design reproducible experiments, perform error analysis, and report results with proper metrics.
  • Prior experience in Python platforms such as NLTK, Anaconda, and Jupyter/Python notebooks along with basic versioning system (Git & Github) knowledge.
  • Familiarity with web development technologies, including HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and jQuery, along with backend and deployment technologies such as Flask, Nginx, MongoDB, SQL, ElasticSearch, or similar frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to write efficient, clean, and well-documented Python code.
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Experience in the implementation of at least one ML/NLP-based project, preferably involving real-world datasets.
  • Experience in conducting research and publishing papers in peer-reviewed conferences and/or journals.
  • Ability to read, understand, and implement research ideas from academic literature, and to conduct systematic experiments and analysis.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a research-oriented environment.

Job Description

The selected candidate will work on an ANRF sponsored project. The work involves data curation, annotation, and benchmark creation for multimodal NLP tasks under the supervision of Prof. Mayank Singh in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

Remuneration and Duration

  • Consolidated Remuneration: Monthly Rs. 54,600/- per month + Rs. 12,600/- HRA (Applicable as per Institute norms).
  • Duration: 12 months, which may be extended based on satisfactory performance and the availability of funds.
