The Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), Hyderabad, a premier research laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), has announced applications for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). DMRL invites applications from young and meritorious Indian nationals who wish to pursue research in the development of advanced materials and processing technologies.

There are a total of 18 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) positions available across the following disciplines:

  • Metallurgical Engineering / Materials Science (JRF01): 07 Posts
  • Mechanical Engineering (JRF02): 07 Posts
  • Chemical Engineering (JRF03): 02 Posts
  • Physics (JRF04): 02 Posts

Eligibility & Qualification

Candidates must possess the following educational qualifications based on the subject code:

Fellowship Code & Subject Essential Educational Qualifications
Junior Research Fellow (JRF01)
Metallurgical Engg. / Materials Science
B.E./ B.Tech. with first class in Metallurgical Engineering / Materials Science / Materials Engineering / Materials Technology from a UGC recognized University with a valid GATE score.
OR
M.E. / M.Tech. with first class in Metallurgical Engineering / Materials Science / Materials Engineering / Materials Technology from a UGC recognized university and B.E./ B.Tech. with first class in the same disciplines.
Junior Research Fellow (JRF02)
Mechanical Engg.
B.E./ B.Tech. with first class in Mechanical Engineering from a UGC recognized University with a valid GATE score.
OR
M.E. / M.Tech. with first class in Mechanical Engineering from a UGC recognized university and B.E./ B.Tech. with first class in Mechanical Engineering.
Junior Research Fellow (JRF03)
Chemical Engg.
B.E./ B.Tech. with first class in Chemical Engineering from a UGC recognized University with a valid GATE score.
OR
M.E. / M.Tech. with first class in Chemical Engineering from a UGC recognized university and B.E./ B.Tech. with first class in Chemical Engineering.
Junior Research Fellow (JRF04)
Physics
M.Sc. in Physics with First Division from a UGC recognized university with a valid NET qualification.

Age Limit

  • The upper age limit for JRF is 28 years as on the closing date of the interview.
  • Age relaxation is applicable up to 5 years for SC/ST candidates and 3 years for OBC candidates (self-attested caste certificate must be attached).

Job Description & Fellowship Benefits

Selected fellows will engage in basic and applied research for developing advanced materials, innovative process technologies, and product engineering for modern defence applications.

  • Stipend: Rs. 37,000/- per month plus HRA as per DRDO Rules.
  • Tenure: The position is temporary for a maximum tenure of 4 years. The initial offer is for 2 years, extendable for another 2 years based on the recommendations of the Internal Screening Committee. Subject to satisfactory performance, the JRF may be elevated to Senior Research Fellow (SRF) after 2 years.
  • Medical Benefits: Medical facilities for self-only will be provided through the MI Room available in DRDO.
  • PhD Registration: JRF candidates may be allowed to register for a part-time PhD (if selected) with any University/Institution during the tenure of the fellowship, subject to approval from the Director, DMRL.

Eligible candidates must follow the application procedure detailed below:

  1. Download the application form (Excel sheet) from the official DRDO website (www.drdo.gov.in).
  2. Fill out all the required entries in the Excel sheet. Marks obtained in qualifying exams must be converted and mentioned as a percentage.
  3. Prepare a single PDF document containing scanned copies of the following supporting documents in order:
    • B.E./B.Tech. final certificate and consolidated Marksheet
    • M.E. / M.Tech. Certificate and Marksheet (if applicable)
    • Valid GATE Score Card / NET qualification
    • Aadhar Card / Any other Govt. Photo ID Card
    • Self-attested passport size photograph
    • Experience Certificate (if applicable)
    • Caste Certificate (if applicable)
    • NOC from present employer (if applicable)
    • Papers published in Journals/Conferences
    • Any other relevant documents
  4. Name the files starting with the Serial Number of the post followed by the candidate’s name (e.g., 2Srinivas for Mechanical Engineering).
  5. Email both the completed Excel sheet and the single combined PDF document to dmrlhrd@gmail.com.

Note: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview at Hyderabad. Original certificates must be produced at the time of the interview.

Last Date for Apply
