The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal has announced an opening for two (2) Junior Research Fellow (J.R.F.) positions in the Department of Chemistry. This interdisciplinary research project is supervised by Dr. Apurba Nandi and focuses on the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Quantum Molecular Simulations.

Research Area
Development of Data-Driven Machine-learned Interatomic Potentials for Quantum Molecular Simulations of Condensed-Phases and Reaction Dynamics.

Eligibility & Qualification
Candidates must meet one of the following academic criteria in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Data Science, Computer Science, or related fields:
- Master’s degree with ≥60% marks or 7.0 CPI/CGPA, plus at least one national-level qualification (such as UGC-JRF, CSIR-JRF, NET-LS, JEST, or a valid GATE score).
- OR a completed BS-MS degree from national-level institutes such as IIT, IISER, or IISc with ≥ 8.0 CPI.
Preferable Skills
- Experience in computer programming (Python, C++, Fortran, etc.).
- Experience in data analysis, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, and algorithm development.
Job Description
The selected candidates will work on an exciting interdisciplinary project aimed at developing data-driven interatomic potentials for molecular simulations of condensed-phase systems and chemical reaction dynamics. The project lies at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Quantum Molecular Simulations, Computational Chemistry, and Molecular Dynamics Simulations.
The JRFs will have the opportunity to develop and apply modern AI/ML-based approaches to learn molecular interactions from quantum-mechanical data and use them for large-scale simulations of chemically complex systems. The position is initially for 1 year, with potential continuation toward a PhD subject to performance and Institute criteria.
Fellowship
Rs. 37,000/- + 20% HRA per month
